Shortly after her death, a journal was found amongst Judy Garland’s private effects, documenting some of the actress/singer’s most intimate and internal moments. Perhaps most poignant of these entries was a passage written about then-costar Gene Kelly, who at the time of the entry was starring with Garland in The Pirate. Ripped from the journal was the following:

I don’t know how much longer I can keep up this ruse. I hate the dishonesty, I hate the secrets—they have kept me from being with the one man I have ever truely [sic] loved. I’m so terribly torn with this pain that lingers from such a beautiful thing.

The torn paper, as well as the journal it was written in, has since disappeared.
